How do I get in the group?
The Bostonians hold auditions twice a year: once in September, once in spring. There will be banners and fliers with the audition dates during the first week or so of the semester, so keep an eye out.
How many spots are you looking to fill?
We lost five seniors this year so it would be nice to fill those spots, but we don't have a set number or limit of people we take. We're looking for any and all voice parts.
Do I
have to be a Boston College student?
Because the Bostonians are partially funded by the University, you must be a current BC undergrad to audition.
What does an audition consist of?
Auditions are very very casual. You sing any song you want a cappella for us, we test your range a little bit and do some pitch matching, we talk awhile. That's it. Nothing scary.
Does it matter what
song I sing?
Not at all. Sing a song that shows off your voice, but don't worry about what type of song it is. One exception: we ARE a pop music group, so it may not be the best idea to sing a 'classical' piece.
Do I have to be a music
major?
Ha. Though we all love music, no one in the current group is a music major (...although we don't discriminate against them) We come from a wide variety of majors and musical backgrounds. The only prerequisite is that you like to sing and have a good time.
What are my
chances?
It all depends on who tries out, although we usually take new people every semester.
I'm a freshman. Do
I have any chance at all?
Absolutely. In fact, the majority of current group members got in as freshmen. If you are interested in the group we strongly suggest trying out freshman year.
Who can I talk to
for more information?
Give any of the officers an email! Contact information is listed on the Contacts page, and our phone numbers will be posted for more info once everyone is back at BC. Other than that, feel free to talk to any group member, online or on campus... we'll give you tons of reasons why you should be a Bostonian. |
